It's fall here in Northern California. Leaves are starting to change color and flutter and fall to earth. And as is common at this time of year, it also gets pretty windy. Not hurricane force winds like some other parts of the country are experiencing, thank goodness, but still, pretty windy and pretty annoying. They're blustery enough to the blow off the leaves and pine needles that are still holding on.
But it got me to thinking, while these winds make a holy mess of many yards and many hairstyles, by forcing the leaves to the ground, it gives the trees a much needed rest from supporting all that greenery. Then the leaves, in turn, provide a blanket of nourishment for the overwintering soil. And then I thought, maybe these seasonal winds are supposed to be here. Maybe they come in order help the trees to let go of the leaves whose time has come and gone.
So when the winds of change blow into your life, think about what they are helping you to let go of that no longer serves you. And instead of resisting them, welcome them. And if you need to, wear a scarf to protect your hairstyle.
