Tibetan Monks Tour into Auburn

 

February 5th – 14th, 2016

Tibetan Buddhist Monks from Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery will construct a Sand Mandala and participate in a variety of events, highlighting many aspects of Tibetan culture.

We are very happy to host this ten day visit for the very first time in Auburn!

 

Sand Mandala open viewing hours:

10 am to 6 pm

(Open daily - before/after scheduled events, teachings)

 

  • All events will be held at General Gomez Arts & Events Center, 808 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA unless otherwise noted.

  • All events listed below are open to the public.

  • The Monks are available for house, land, and business blessings, as well as school visits. Personal Healings will take place daily at the General Gomez Center. Inquire upon arrival at the Center.

  • Changes may be made to this schedule at any time, before or during Monks' visit.

  • Events are by donation. All monies raised go directly to the Monks.Suggested donation is $1-$5-$10 for mandala viewing, and $15-$20 per person, per event, however no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Friday, February 5th

7 pm- OPENING CEREMONY - Buddha of Compassion (Avalokiteshvara) Sand Mandala. Please join us, along with members of the United Auburn Indian Community of the Auburn Rancheria ,and the Colfax-Todds Valley Consolidated Tribe for a special welcome and blessing with the Monks!

 

Saturday, February 6th
10 am - BUTTER SCULPTURE AND SAND MANDALA WORKSHOP DEMONSTRATION -
Monks will lead hands-on workshop for children and adults on creating traditional butter sculptures and sand mandalas

3 pm -  TIBETAN SINGING BOWL MEDITATION - Experience a sound healing with Tibetan Singing Bowls. Bring your own!

7 pm -  CHAY DROL - Healing ritual for removing obstacles


Sunday, February 7th
10 am - DHARMA TALK
-‘Karma: Causes  and Conditions’

2 pm -  TARA PUJA- Ritual of sacred music and chant of the Praises to the 21 Taras

 

Monday, February 8th

7 pm - DHARMA TALK - Part 1 of 2 - 'The Six Perfections' (Generosity, Ethics, Patience) - attend one or both talks

 

Tuesday, February 9th
3:30 pm - AFTER SCHOOL TALK FOR TEENS
- ‘The Art of Compassion’, followed by Q&A

7 pm - VAJARVIDARIN HEALING/PURIFICATION - Ritual of purification to remove negativity, negative imprints, and offer protection

 

Wednesday, February 10th
7 pm - DHARMA TALK
- Part 2 of 2 - 'The Six Perfections' (Effort, Concentration, Wisdom) - attend one or both talks

 

Thursday, February 11th

7 pm - SLIDE SHOW OF MONASTERY LIFE - followed by Q&A

 

Friday, February 12th

7 pm - MANDALA EMPOWERMENT for sand mandala & sand mandala explanation
 

Saturday, February 13th
10 am - BLESSING OF SACRED OBJECTS
- Bring your objects to be blessed

3 pm - DHARMA TALK - ‘Meditations on Patience and Compassion’

7 pm -  MANDALA DISSOLUTION & CLOSING CEREMONY

 

Sunday, February 14th
10 am - BLESSING OF THE WATERS -

Ceremony to bless the environment with sacred sand from the mandala
